Service-Learning Project

Our student are working with local artist and activist Njogu Touray to learn to make recycled biomass briquettes, which serve as an alternative cooking fuel to charcoal. We will travel to the village of Makumbaya to teach people in the village how they can make their own briquettes, which will result in fewer trees being cut down for charcoal. We will also create a mural in the village teaching about the importance of trees and the dangers of deforestation.
