Service-Learning Trips to Makumbaya Lower Basic School

On Wednesday, May 23rd, and Thursday, May 24th, BAIS students traveled to Makumbaya Lower Basic School to put their learning into action! Through advocacy and art, this year’s Service Learning Project has focused on deforestation. During these field trips, students worked with Makumbaya students to:
– Promote, demonstrate, and create biomass briquettes for Makumbaya students to share with their families and the community.
– Paint a mural in a visible community space outside of the school sharing the story of the forests, their importance and plight, and promoting the use of the biomass briquettes.
– Go on a nature walk to observe the diversity of forests in the Ballabu Conservation Project area and reflect on the project and its purpose.
